Connectivist Collective- establishing a volunteer group of link workers-

  • InterUrban ArtHouse 8001 Newton Street Overland Park, Kansas 66204 (map)

Facilitated by Sherri Jacobs

Social prescribing is often done in partnership with link workers-professionals who serve as the link to help a person access their written social prescription. In countries with socialized medicine, link workers are government funded positions and costs associated with prescriptive activity are also covered by the government.

InterUrban’s grassroots approach to creating a social prescribing model includes training volunteers to be connectivists- people who can conceptualize a social prescription for someone and help them access their chosen activity. Connectivists (a term we created at InterUrban)  are volunteers trained to write a social prescription in partnership with the recipient and help a person find their chosen activity in the community. The Connectivist Collective will work with InterUrban ArtHouse to find activities and groups within the community that match the participant’s budget as well. The intention for this endeavor is to create a model that can be replicated in other communities.

This workshop will offer basic training for our emerging connectivist program using material from the World Health Organization’s data and guidelines.
