This workshop will teach the basics of linocut relief printmaking. Participants will work on developing an image, transferring the image to a block, preparing the block for carving, techniques for carving, and printing the block. Various types of blocks, papers, inks and transferring techniques will be discussed. This workshop will also cover the basics of reduction and “jigsaw” linocut printing, in which multiple colors can be printed using special techniques and tools for registration. This workshop is geared towards beginning students to give an overview of the linocut process. No experience in any art form is necessary. Ages 10 and up.
About the instructor:
Adam Finkelston is an educator, artist, and publisher based in Kansas City. He teaches photographic printmaking at the Kansas City Art Institute. He has taught cyanotype and other alternative photographic processes to hundreds of students at the high school level and at public and private workshops in Kansas City, New Orleans, Albuquerque, and St. Joseph, MO.
