Sherri is an art therapist, licensed clinical marriage and family therapist, artist and founder of Heartland Art Therapy (located at IUAH). This series is part of her project award through IUAH's current NEA Grants for Arts award:
"2024 will likely be a contentious and challenging year in the United States in this extremely polarized era. This project will include six interactive, creative workshops to learn useful tools to navigate these complex times. These sessions can be attended as stand alone events , but will flow well together if participants choose to attend the entire series. ."
The classes include:
Nuance May 22nd 12-1
Participants will be introduced to concepts of Visual Intelligence and Visual Thinking Strategy principles while creating simple optical illusion drawings.

Anger June 10th 5-6
This workshop will introduce participants to the Grump Meter, a deceptively simple yet complex tool for communication. Participants will create their own Grump Meters paintings.

Mask June 19th 6:30-8
Masks are present in almost every culture and are found in many ancient societies. Participants will make their own masks to explore healthy emotional boundaries and when it is safe to take their mask off.

Identity June 25th 6:30-7:30
This workshop will explore our complex, multifaceted identities through torn paper collage self-portraits.
