Artist Studio Space

Work in a lively, creative, cooperative environment in the heart of Downtown Overland Park. InterUrban ArtHouse features 19 private and share studios alongside retail, gallery, programming, and event space.

The ArtHouse welcomes and encourages applications for studio space from creatives working in all art disciplines at all skill levels.

Our staff, studio, and member artists strive to maintain a space where all who wish to engage feel a sense of acceptance and belonging, experience a network of positive creative motivation, and receive the support they need. This environment often works as a petri dish for innovative, interdisciplinary collaborations.

15’ x 11’ Private Studio : $325/month

12’ x 9’ Private Studio : $225/month

8’ x 13’ Shared Studio : $180/month

Note: Financial assistance available. Although not guaranteed, all requests are considered.


application + selection

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Selection is based on a complete application, studio availability, appropriateness of the studio practice, and our desire for inclusivity and diversity.

InterUrban is a 501(c)(3) organization and does not discriminate in any of its programming or facilities on any prohibited basis. 

Prepare the following for your application:

  • Studio size/price preference

  • Artist statement

  • Work samples/reference materials

  • Portfolio links (if available)

  • Accessibility needs

  • Special handling or storage for materials

  • Expected studio hours

  • Description of revenue streams that support your practice

Note: Applications without sufficient supporting materials may not be reviewed.

Original artwork is not accepted as work samples. Submitted materials will handled with care, but InterUrban ArtHouse is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

timeline

Studio availability is limited. Applications are reviewed as studio space becomes available. Applicants will be contacted if selected.

Upon signing a Studio License Agreement, the artist/creative pays a refundable deposit equal to one month’s license fee, plus the first month’s license fee.


eligibility

Successful studio artists exhibit the following:

  • A regular and consistent creative practice beyond hobby-level in a variety of disciplines including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, book arts, printmaking, mixed-media, literature, poetry, photography, music composition, architecture, graphic arts, film, video, fiber/textiles, digital/new media, jewelry, glass, choreography, musical composition, performance, costume/fashion design, set design, etc.

  • Ambition to progress and develop their studio practice and arts-based business practice

  • Commitment to actively use the studio space (minimum average of 3 days per week)

  • When/if able, dedication to using their art expertise in the community to mentor, apprentice, support, present, and/or teach

  • Propagation of their art form through events, activities, performances and classes

  • Commitment to participate in the artistic community

Note: The reality of working in a shared space does require InterUrban ArtHouse to limit studio practices that may be disruptive or unsafe to fellow tenants.


studio license agreements

All studio license holders agree to:

  • Consistently pay charges fully and on time

  • Participate in open studio events including 3rd Friday openings and special events

  • Interact with visitors (including children) to share the creative process, techniques, and answer questions

  • Actively work towards waste reduction and participate in our landfill diversion programs by composting and recycling materials whenever possible

  • Commit to keeping the ArtHouse clean and presentable and our environment polite, inclusive, and respectful

  • Promote the ArtHouse through social media and other business profiles

  • Participate in periodic discussions, meetings, mentoring, art critiques, presentations, and exhibitions

Note: Licenses are subject to immediate termination without refund for violation of these agreements.
